Today I had a really strong urge to eat warm, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, homemade cookies. I asked John if he would partake in the devouring of said cookies, and with his giant smile of approval, off to the kitchen I went! My mother has always used the Toll House recipe for her cookies and I have always LOVED when she makes hers, but no matter how many times I try, that recipe never turns out right for me and just leaves me wondering what I did wrong. Today I decided to switch things up and try something new. The result was deeeeelicious and I would recommend this recipe to anyone. Keep reading to see pictures of what I did and get the complete recipe.
First combine sugar while you soften your butter in the microwave (or on the counter if you prefer that)
Add butter and mix together until mixture is creamy. Ignore giant lumps in your brown sugar.
Starting to look yummy! Take a second to enjoy your kids smiling (instead of fighting) and laughing at the sound of the mixer.
Love those two so much. Ok, back to the cookies. Now add your eggs, one at a time, until they are mixed in completely.
Add vanilla extract and mix together.
Next, dissolve your baking soda into the hot water and add to the dough mixture.
Add salt now too
Add your flour in one cup at a time. Generally, I never listen to rules like that. Add one egg at a time? Sure ok….then I plop all eggs in at once and start mixing. But with flour, you have to listen. It combines so much better this way and also it keeps you safe from having a face and outfit full of flour.
YES. Just yes.
Add your desired amount of chocolate chips (and nuts if you prefer to have a little crunch) and start rolling in about 1-1.5 inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie tray for baking!
Bake around 11-12 minutes or until the edges are brown. All ovens vary in temperature obviously, so just keep an eye on your first batch to gauge how long to cook yours!
These were cooked perfectly!! Soooooo tasty. Enjoy every last bite.
PS. Check out the bottom of these….perfectly cooked! So impressed with these cookies…you have to try them for yourself!
